Softball Recap: Irving Wins Going Away Against Macarthur

While Irving put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for MacArthur. The Tigers blew past the Cardinals 17-0. The Tigers have beaten the Cardinals the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cardinals has come to flipping the script.

Shantia Haymer made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Cardenas, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Heily Jiminez, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Irving always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .630 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Irving's victory bumped their record up to 11-13-1. As for MacArthur, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14-1.

Irving will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cardinals: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
