Basketball Game Preview: New Hampstead Phoenix vs. Benedictine Cadets

The New Hampstead Phoenix will face off against the Benedictine Cadets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Hampstead knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Benedictine likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, New Hampstead got the win against Wayne County by a conclusive 72-50.

Meanwhile, Benedictine came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past the Cavaliers with a 67-62 victory.

Benedictine's win came from a few key players New Hampstead will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Caleb Jones, who went 11 for 20 on his way to 32 points and five rebounds. The contest was his 40th in a row with at least ten points. Micah Williams was another key player, going 6 of 14 on his way to 19 points.

New Hampstead is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Benedictine, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2.

New Hampstead didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Benedictine when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 68-64 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Jones, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 32 points in addition to six boards and three blocks.
