Baseball Game Preview: Jordan Falcons vs. Durham Academy Cavaliers

The Jordan Falcons will challenge the Durham Academy Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jordan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Jordan needed a bit of extra time to put away Cardinal Gibbons. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Crusaders 8-7. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Peyton Jones was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

Meanwhile, Durham Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Norfolk Academy, falling 13-1.

Durham Academy also got a good showing from Michael Goodmon, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Goodmon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Durham Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Capone, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.

Jordan pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Durham Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Durham Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Jordan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game.
