Basketball Recap: East Wilkes Falls Short of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact East Wilkes can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 70-31 loss at the hands of the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered since December 9, 2024.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy was led to victory by Samara Jones and Brooklyn Twitty. Jones posted 29 points in addition to five boards and four steals, while Twitty had 18 points and three steals. Jones' big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoee Lowrance, who scored six points.

This is the second loss in a row for East Wilkes and nudges their season record down to 11-14. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-6.

East Wilkes does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, they will square off against Queen's Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Queen's Grant will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
