Baseball Game Preview: Grand Valley Mustangs vs. Champion Golden Flashes

The Grand Valley Mustangs will square off against the Champion Golden Flashes at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Grand Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Champion's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Champion will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Grand Valley extended their winning streak to three on Friday. Everything went the Mustangs' way against Conneaut as they made off with a 13-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Champion fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Crestview on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 2-1. The Golden Flashes have struggled against the Rebels recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Dylan Howell put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 8.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases.

Grand Valley pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Champion, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
