Football Recap: Strong Effort on D from Rocco Haggard and Nathan Hallums Leads Tanque Verde over Morenci

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Phoenix Christian, Tanque Verde was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 24-16 win over the Morenci Wildcats. This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 32-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Among those leading the charge was Aiden Cooper, who picked up 71 receiving yards and a pair of scores. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two).

Tanque Verde didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rocco Haggard and Nathan Hallums.

Despite the loss, Morenci still got an impressive performance from Julien Aragon, who rushed for 113 yards and one TD.

The victory got Tanque Verde back to even at 1-1. As for Morenci, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Looking ahead, Tanque Verde will look to defend their home field on Friday against Palo Verde at 7:00 p.m. This will be the Hawks' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Morenci, they will head out to face off against Willcox at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
