Softball Recap: Ygnacio Valley Comes Up Short

Ygnacio Valley extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They came up short against the Campolindo Cougars, falling 27-10. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-9 back in March.

As for Campolindo, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Campolindo's part, Paige Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Williams was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Cassidy Mintz was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Nicky Sturtz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Ygnacio Valley will square off against San Lorenzo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.67 runs per game on average), something the Wolves will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Campolindo, they will challenge Hercules at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
