Volleyball Game Preview: Sheldon Huskies vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs

Sheldon hasn't had much luck against Monterey Trail recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Sheldon Huskies will welcome the Monterey Trail Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Sheldon is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Sheldon and Elk Grove meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. Sheldon walked away with a 3-1 victory over Elk Grove.

While Sheldon might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Elk Grove scored at least 21 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 26-24.

Sheldon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kiet Bach out in front who had 15 digs and one assist. Those 15 digs gave Bach a new career-high.

Sheldon was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, everything went Monterey Trail's way against McClatchy on Tuesday as Monterey Trail made off with a 3-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won eight in a row.

Monterey Trail now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Sheldon, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.
