Football Recap: San Marcos Comes Up Short

San Marcos lost against Steele back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rattlers took a 27-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. While losing is never fun, the Rattlers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Knights are ranked 45th).

Despite the loss, San Marcos still got an impressive performance from Justin Tardy, who rushed for 100 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Tardy's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. Henry Harris made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Jonathan Hatton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Steele, rushing for 224 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also catching one touchdown. Hatton's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards.

San Marcos' loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Steele, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1.

Coincidentally, San Marcos and Steele will both be playing Canyon the next time they take the field. The Knights will host the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Rattlers will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on November 7.
