Recap: SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars vs. West Craven Eagles
After a string of five wins, the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Craven. SouthWest Edgecombe was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as West Craven apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, SouthWest Edgecombe saw an underclassman step up: Kd Collins scored 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Collins has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Whitehead, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.
It was another big night for Torvonyah Heggie, who dropped a double-double on 39 points and 13 rebounds for West Craven. Heggie continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Nyliah Bryant was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
SouthWest Edgecombe's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-4. As for West Craven, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. SouthWest Edgecombe will take on Farmville Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Craven, they will be playing at home against Ayden - Grifton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Ayden - Grifton has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19.
