Baseball Game Preview: Lakeview Bulldogs vs. Boardman Spartans

The Lakeview Bulldogs will challenge the Boardman Spartans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lakeview headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for four straight, but Maplewood let them put that streak behind them. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over the Rockets on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Lakeview got a massive performance out of Carter Doran, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Doran has become a key player for the Bulldogs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Jackson Stuart was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lakeview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Boardman owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Springfield, sneaking past 2-0. The victory was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Landon Whippo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Whippo wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Eicher, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Vince Butto also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Lakeview now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Boardman, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.
