Softball Game Preview: Woodside Wolverines vs. Warwick Raiders

The Woodside Wolverines will venture away from home to take on the Warwick Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodside has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with eight straight losses, while Warwick will come in with four straight victories.

Woodside lost 14-3 to Menchville on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Warwick won against Denbigh on Tuesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Raiders walked away with a 17-14 win over the Patriots.

Addison Burr was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Jamiyah Fitzgerald was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Warwick always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Warwick's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Woodside, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

Woodside's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. The Wolverines have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Warwick, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Woodside continue to outrun the ball?

Woodside was able to grind out a solid victory over Warwick in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 14-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
