Basketball Game Preview: Cholla Chargers vs. Sahuarita Mustangs

Cholla has gone 8-0 against Sahuarita recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cholla Chargers will take on the Sahuarita Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Cholla sitting on seven straight wins and Sahuarita on three.

Cholla is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 110-39 victory over Safford. The Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.

Cholla had a senior duo take command as Michael Payne almost dropped a triple-double on 36 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists and Cyree Jenkins went 10 of 12 en route to 24 points in addition to six boards and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Payne has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Standifer, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 14 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Sahuarita earned an 85-76 win over Douglas on Tuesday.

Cholla's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.2 points. As for Sahuarita, their win bumped their record up to 11-13.

Everything came up roses for Cholla against Sahuarita in their previous matchup back in January, as the team secured an 88-50 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cholla since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
