Baseball Recap: Perry Central Find Success

While Perry Central's win against Orleans wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Commodores won by a run and slipped past the Bulldogs 9-8. The victory continues a trend for the Commodores in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.

Zac Mitchell and Owen Hubert made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Mitchell pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hubert struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Mitchell also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Perry Central is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. At bat, Mitchell went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Hubert got on base in two of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Those four RBI gave Mitchell a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cohen Edwards, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Caleb Gehlhausen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Perry Central pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Orleans, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Perry Central will square off against Mitchell at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Orleans, they will venture away from home to challenge North Daviess at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
