Softball Game Preview: Valley Central Vikings vs. Washingtonville Wizards

Valley Central has gone a perfect 10-0 against Washingtonville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Vikings will host the Wizards at 7:00 p.m. Valley Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Valley Central's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Monticello with a sharp 18-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.

Kori Gesiselhart made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Hinspeter, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Adrianna Ferraro was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs.

Valley Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .488. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Washingtonville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 9-2 to Minisink Valley.

Washingtonville's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Valley Central, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Everything went Valley Central's way against Washingtonville in their previous matchup back in April, as Valley Central made off with an 18-6 victory. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wizards turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
