Caroline Ward commands the offense for Vikings win

Recap: Bishop Verot Vikings vs. Gateway Charter Griffins

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Bishop Verot Vikings had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They managed a 39-34 victory over the Griffins. Given Bishop Verot's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Gateway Charter is ranked 310th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bishop Verot's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caroline Ward, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ward has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josee Fry, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Several Griffins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ellie Morin, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Juantorena, who scored four points along with four steals.

Bishop Verot has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Gateway Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.

Bishop Verot will play host again and welcome Canterbury, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Canterbury is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58 points per game this season. Gateway Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
