Basketball Recap: Ashland Has No Trouble Against Satanta

There's no place like home for Ashland, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. Everything went their way against the Satanta Indians on Tuesday as the Ashland Blue Jays made off with a 60-37 win. That 23 point margin sets a new team best for the Blue Jays this season.

Ashland had a senior duo take command as Biannca Ceniceros went 11 for 18 on her way to 25 points and five steals and Jaya Milburn dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for Ceniceros. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Harris, who posted six points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Ashland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Yahaira Puerto and Jasmine Wood certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Puerto had 20 points and four steals, while Wood posted five points along with 14 rebounds and six blocks. That was a full 54.1% of Satanta's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Ashland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Satanta, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Ashland will venture away from home to square off against Meade at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Satanta, they will welcome Deerfield at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Deerfield has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
