The Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks are taking a road trip to take on the Broadwater Academy Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Atlantic Shores Christian will be strutting in after a win while Broadwater Academy will be coming in after a defeat.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Atlantic Shores Christian and Hampton Christian Academy have met, but the home crowd finally got their W two weeks ago. The Seahawks were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Warriors. With that victory, the Seahawks brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Alyssa Marraccini was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Marraccini was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Skylar Carter and Layla Berry did most of the damage at the plate: Carter went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI, while Berry went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. With that strong performance, Carter is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Olivia Edenfield was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Atlantic Shores Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Broadwater Academy has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 2.58 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They lost 15-2 to Greenbrier Christian Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Vikings have suffered since March 27th.
Broadwater Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kacey Ford, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Atlantic Shores Christian's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4. As for Broadwater Academy, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Atlantic Shores Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Broadwater Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Atlantic Shores Christian might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Broadwater Academy in their previous matchup on April 1st. Can the Seahawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
