Softball Recap: Homestead Highlanders vs. Slinger Owls
Homestead came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 14-6 to the Slinger Owls. The Highlanders haven't had much luck with the Owls recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Anna Faucett was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. Faucett was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Emmy Sehnert was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.
Homestead's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Slinger, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Homestead will head out on the road to face off against Port Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Highlanders will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Slinger, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Whitefish Bay at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Dukes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.47 runs per game on average), something the Owls will no doubt try to take advantage of.
