Softball Preview: Armstrong Trojans vs. Hoopeston Cornjerkers
Armstrong is 2-7 against Hoopeston since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Armstrong Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Hoopeston Cornjerkers at 4:30 p.m.

Acasia Gernentz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Gernentz has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. Gernentz was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ellie Jameson was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Even though they lost, Armstrong didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 12 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milford only tossed seven.
Meanwhile, in what's become a running theme this season, Hoopeston gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Urbana. The victory was familiar territory for Hoopeston who now have three in a row.
Like Armstrong, Hoopeston also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddie Barnes. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). Barnes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a run, and a double.
In other batting news, Macy Warner was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Addyson Kelnhofer, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Armstrong's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Hoopeston, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10-1.
