Basketball Recap: Steamboat Springs Takes a Loss

Steamboat Springs played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 48-17 loss at the hands of the Delta Panthers. The Sailors have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Talyn Anderson was Steamboat Springs' leading scorer, having posted nine points. Hailey Bender held things down on the boards with four rebounds. Mahlet Vanblarcum took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Delta had a senior duo take command as Taylor Somers dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards and Breezy Huff almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Huff is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Jaycee Christie was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Steamboat Springs' loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Delta, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Coal Ridge the next time they take the court. Steamboat Springs will host Coal Ridge at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Delta will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on February 7th.
