Football Recap: Lackawanna Trail Takes Down Line Mountain in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Lackawanna Trail had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 31-20 victory over the Line Mountain Eagles on Saturday. The win was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won ten contests in a row.

Lackawanna Trail had a senior duo take command as Isaac Ryon rushed for 145 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 9.1 yards per carry and Tyler Jervis rushed for 75 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Ryon is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last ten games he's played.

Lackawanna Trail was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards in 12 consecutive matchups.

Lackawanna Trail's defense made their presence known, laying out Kaiden Maurer three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jervis, Blake Stage, and Kaylix Douglas, who each picked up one sack apiece. Jervis got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maurer, who threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 73 yards. Bryce Smeltz was Maurer's top target, picking up 94 receiving yards and one TD.

Lackawanna Trail's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Line Mountain, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1.

Lackawanna Trail wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 52-40 defeat against Belmont Charter on the 21st. Line Mountain does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
