Basketball Game Preview: Newman International Academy Warriors vs. Greenhill Hornets

The Newman International Academy Warriors will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Greenhill Hornets at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Newman International Academy is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering DasCHE just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 68-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans.

Meanwhile, Greenhill had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points) and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 64-40 victory. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Newman International Academy better keep an eye on Jaxson Thompson. He was instrumental in Greenhill's win, putting up 27 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was DIllon Watt, who posted 14 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Greenhill was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Newman International Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Greenhill, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season.
