Basketball Recap: Patience Morton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoke County over Southern Lee

Hoke County was the 57-18 winner over Southern Lee when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hoke County Bucks received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 52-36 to the Southern Lee Cavaliers.

Several Bucks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Patience Morton, who posted seven points. Karmen Campbell was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.

It was another big night for Makayla Hall, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten boards for Southern Lee. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hall has scored at least a third of Southern Lee's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zamaria Mellette, who had seven points along with 14 boards and five assists.

Hoke County dropped their record down to 3-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Southern Lee, their win ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-8.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Union Pines the next time they take the court. Hoke County will head out to face Union Pines at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Southern Lee will host them at 6:00 p.m. on January 14th.
