Basketball Recap: Canton Comes Up Short

Canton has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-52 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northville Mustangs. The contest was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but the Cobras couldn't quite close it out.

Canton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kessler Blakita, who went 6 of 14 en route to 17 points, and Teddy Winstel, who posted 11 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Winstel a new career-high in steals. Liam Wilson was another key player, putting up six points.

Canton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Northville, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canton will venture away from home to face off against Hartland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season. As for Northville, they will square off against Plymouth at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northville has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
