Baseball Game Preview: Ukiah Wildcats vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

For the second straight game, Ukiah will face off against Cardinal Newman. The Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Ukiah took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Cardinal Newman, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cardinals 5-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

For Cardinal Newman's part, they got a good showing from Andrew Fletcher, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Fletcher has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jack Wedge and Chase Bromstad did some serious damage despite the final result: Wedge scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Bromstad scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Bromstad is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Cardinal Newman's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for Ukiah, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 8-6.
