The Hubbard Eagles will face off against the Coventry Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Hubbard fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against LaBrae on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings.
Layla Songer and Haleigh Taylor did some serious damage despite the final result: Songer went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double, while Taylor went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Coventry, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Alliance on Monday. Considering the Comets have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Addisyn Hahn looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ava Burkhart and Gwen Seiler did most of the damage at the plate: Burkhart went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Seiler went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI and one run. That's the most hits Burkhart has posted since back in April. Scarlet Dineff was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Coventry is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Hubbard, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hubbard hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .425. However, it's not like Coventry struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
