Football Game Preview: Summit Storm vs. Gresham Gophers

Summit has won eight straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Gresham has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Storm will face off against the Gophers at 7:00 p.m. Summit knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Gresham likes a good challenge.

Summit's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 47-0 win over Caldera. Given the Storm's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon football rankings (they are ranked third, while Caldera are ranked 46th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Gresham strolled past La Salle with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 34-16.

Summit better keep an eye on Liam Arnold. He was instrumental in Gresham's win, rushing for 277 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 35 yards and one touchdown. Those 277 rushing yards gave Arnold a new career-high. Joshua Calderon was another key player, rushing for 122 yards and one score on only 14 carries.

Gresham was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 416 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Gresham's defense made their presence known, laying out Sterling Dressel three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Izayiah Moore, Ronald Menyfield, and Gavin Knobbs, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Summit's record now sits at 9-0. As for Gresham, their record is now 6-3.
