Softball Recap: Springfield Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Field, Springfield was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Coventry Comets 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Comets: they've now won three in a row.

Joey Klein spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bre Ruggiero, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Melaena Martin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.

Springfield's win bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Coventry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will face off against East at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans are facing the Dragons at the right time seeing as the Dragons are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Coventry, they will square off against McKinley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
