Two Orange County squads do battle on the ice outdoors at an MLB stadium.
High school baseball players in Southern California dream of making it to Dodger Stadium for the championship. This season, however, a couple of high school hockey teams beat them to it.
Orange Lutheran (Calif.) and Capistrano United skated to an 8-8 tie in an exhibition game played Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium, on the very same ice that the L.A. Kings and Anaheim Ducks played on just a few nights earlier in the NHL Stadium Series.
The teams competed in an hour of ice time beginning at 9 p.m., under typical Southern California weather: The high temperature was 70 degrees during the day and the low was 49.
According to the Orange County Register, Orange Lutheran's goals were scored by
Joshua Daniel,
Parker Dietz,
Jacob Heller (2),
Riley Kraemer,
Chase Marhoff,
Grant Marhoff and
Jeremy Mills.
Capistrano United, in the program's first year of existence, scored on goals by Michael Boutoussov (2), Keenan Haase (3), Connor Reed (2) and Maximilian Kamper. Capistrano United is part of the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League, made up mostly of players from southern Orange County.
MaxPreps photographer David Hood was there to capture the action. Here are a few photos from the special night:
