Basketball Recap: Xavier Solis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lyons over Southeast of Saline

Lyons lost against Southeast of Saline back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Lyons Lions took a 67-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southeast of Saline Trojans. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (58), the Lions still had to take the loss.

Lyons' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier Solis, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 15 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Solis is crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Francisco Espinoza, who went 5 for 11 en route to 11 points and seven assists.

Even though they lost, Lyons was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southeast of Saline only racked up 11 assists.

Southeast of Saline got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gannon Jacobson out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. Tiernan Ptacek was another key player, going 5 of 12 on his way to 19 points.

Lyons is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Southeast of Saline, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 3-5 record this season.

Lyons has already played their next matchup, a 53-32 win against Republic County on the 17th. As for Southeast of Saline, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-63 loss against Clay Center on the 17th.
