Basketball Game Preview: Wakefield Trojans vs. Tri County Northeast Wolfpack

Wakefield is a perfect 4-0 against Tri County Northeast since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Trojans will host the Wolfpack at 7:30 p.m. Wakefield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Wakefield turned things around against Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 73-35 victory over the Cougars. With the Trojans ahead 34-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wakefield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brandon Paredes, who shot 60% from the field to rack up 17 points and seven steals. Thanks to that strong game, Paredes now owns an excellent 45.3% shooting accuracy. Jacob Borg was another key player, going 7-for-13 on his way to 15 points and four steals.

Wakefield was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 8-3 when they've passed the ball that well.

Meanwhile, Tri County Northeast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were dealt a 79-50 loss at the hands of Wausa. While losing is never fun, the Wolfpack can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while the Vikings are ranked 84th).

Tri County Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Wakefield, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.

Wakefield got the 'W' when the teams last played back in January of 2025 against Tri County Northeast by a conclusive 75-52 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Wolfpack have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
