League recap: Midland Christian climbs in standings with win

TAPPS Division II District 1 recap September 10, 2013

Midland Christian was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from third to first in TAPPS Division II District 1. Earlier in the week, the Mustangs defeated Big Spring 38-3.

Reicher Catholic fell to College Station 70-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Mason McClendon and Justin Fender gave Midland Christian a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. McClendon threw for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns, while Fender ran for 93 yards. Sam Gilbert also contributed to the rushing game with 65 yards on the ground.

McClendon and Fender gave Greg McClendon's team a balanced attack through the air and ground last week.

Fender was the most successful running back in the league this week.

McClendon put up the best numbers in passing as the Mustangs defeated the Steers. McClendon's favorite target this week was Jarrod Koym, who caught 2 passes for 56 yards.

Ben Ashton was the best receiver in the league this week as Faith Christian fell to Godley. Ashton tallied 5 receptions for 75 yards. Noah Postema helped Faith Christian's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 49 yards.

Midland Christian's McClendon and Elias Aguirre have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading TAPPS Division II District 1 in both passing and receiving yards. 5-8 quarterback McClendon has thrown for 567 yards this season, while Aguirre has 12 catches for 212 yards. Bomani Carter from Fort Worth Christian leads the league in rushing with 171 yards.

The Mustangs led the league in scoring this week after putting up 38 points on Big Spring. McClendon in the win.
