Baseball Recap: Brazos Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hempstead

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brazos). They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Hempstead Bobcats on Monday. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Bobcats last Tuesday, they had to take a 8-7 defeat.

Brazos got a massive performance out of Reese Cullen, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Cullen has posted since back in May of 2024. Grant Marvin was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Brazos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Brazos has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. Hempstead dropped their record down to 5-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Brazos will challenge Hitchcock at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brazos is facing Hitchcock at the right time seeing as Hitchcock is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Hempstead, they will take on Van Vleck at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Van Vleck's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Hempstead's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
