Volleyball Recap: Tough Loss for Wesson

After flying high against Brookhaven on Monday, Wesson came back down to earth. The Cobras lost 3-0 to the Salem Wildcats on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Cobras in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost nine in a row.

The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-12, 25-16.

Salem's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jyniah Carr led the charge by getting 21 kills, nine digs, three aces, and two solo blocks. The team also got some help from Aubrianna Hill, who had four digs and three aces.

Wesson has now lost four of their last five games at home. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 3-1 East Marion (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70% over those games). As for Salem, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That run has powered them to a 12-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wesson's homestand will continue as they prepare to take on Lawrence County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Salem, they will welcome Taylorsville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
