Basketball Recap: St. Paul Takes a Loss

St. Paul was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by the Minden Whippets 70-26. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-19.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Katie Kleinsasser, who posted six points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Kleinsasser a new career-high in assists (two). Another player making a difference was Aubree Fitzgerald, who earned six points and six boards.

Even though they lost, St. Paul smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Mattie Kamery, who went 7 for 13 en route to 17 points along with six assists and five steals for Minden. Kamery is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games she's played. Myla Emery was another key player, going 6 of 13 on her way to 16 points.

St. Paul's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Minden, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Paul will face off against Centura at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th. As for Minden, they will challenge Holdrege at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Minden is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.1 points per game this season.
