Basketball Game Preview: La Marque Cougars vs. Wharton Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the La Marque Cougars duke it out with the Wharton Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday... La Marque is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Last Friday, La Marque came up short against Columbia and fell 39-31. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1386th, while the Roughnecks are ranked 525th).

Meanwhile, Wharton hadn't done well against El Campo recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Wharton enjoyed a cozy 47-32 victory over El Campo. That 15 point margin sets a new team best for the Tigers this season.

The win made it two in a row for Wharton and bumps their season record up to 4-11. As for La Marque, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.

Everything came up roses for La Marque against Wharton in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, as the team secured an 86-35 victory. In that contest, La Marque amassed a halftime lead of 54-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
