On Thursday, Doherty faced Canon City in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Doherty Spartans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Canon City Tigers, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since April 20, 2024.

Doherty was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (112-103), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-20, 14-25, 28-26, 18-16.
