Basketball Recap: Meridian's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

Meridian won the last time they faced Oak Grove and things went their way on Friday too. The Meridian Wildcats walked away with a 58-47 win over the Oak Grove Warriors. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Warriors are ranked 167th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meridian is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Oak Grove, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Meridian will host Gulfport at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Gulfport will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Meridian surely won't give up without a fight. Oak Grove has already played their next contest (against Petal), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
