Football Recap: El Capitan Gauchos vs. Kimball Jaguars
El Capitan and Kimball squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but El Capitan had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Kimball Jaguars by a score of 27-25. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Gauchos of the 34-27 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August.
El Capitan lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ariel Ochoa, who threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of her passes. Ochoa is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as she's now passed for four or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Avnoor Bains, who picked up 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, El Capitan's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Fabianna Meja-Guzman.
It was another big night for Emma Coronado, who threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.7% of her passes, and also rushed for 43 yards for Kimball.
El Capitan's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-8. As for Kimball, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-8.
El Capitan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Kimball has already played their next matchup, a 40-21 loss against Ponderosa on the 31st.
