Volleyball Recap: Riverwalk Academy Takes a Loss

Riverwalk Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against the Midlands STEM Charter Mavericks, falling 3-0. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mavericks earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

While Riverwalk Academy ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-20.

Their offense was headlined by Jada Shannon and Kathryn Wilson, who picked up two kills apiece. They got some help from Greenlee Taylor and her five assists. Wilson was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Riverwalk Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Midlands STEM Charter, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-11.

Riverwalk Academy and Midlands STEM Charter could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings. The Lions (ranked 277th) will meet Great Falls (ranked 136th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Midlands STEM Charter will challenge McBee at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (267 vs. 94).
