Softball Preview: Alcester-Hudson Cubs vs. Gayville-Volin Raiders

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs will stay at home for another game and welcome the Gayville-Volin Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

In what's become a running theme this season, Alcester-Hudson gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. Everything went their way against Chester as Alcester-Hudson made off with a 17-2 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what Alcester-Hudson needed considering they were shutout in their previous matchup.

Emma Moller made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Moller has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. Moller was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Alcester-Hudson got a massive performance out of Elly Doering, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jenna Manning, who went 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run.

Meanwhile, Gayville-Volin faced Vermillion in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Gayville-Volin sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Vermillion. Winning may never get old, but Gayville-Volin sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Maia Achen was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Paisley Dimmer, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

Alcester-Hudson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Gayville-Volin, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Alcester-Hudson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game.
