Softball Game Preview: Sam Rayburn Texans vs. Pearland Oilers

Sam Rayburn hasn't had much luck against Pearland recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Sam Rayburn Texans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pearland Oilers at 1:00 p.m. Sam Rayburn has given up an average of 11.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Sam Rayburn is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Saturday. They came up short against Shadow Creek, falling 22-3.

Emily Fuentes was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Hazel Hernandez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, Pearland had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Trojans a 17-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Oilers, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Pearland's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sam Rayburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.
