Basketball Game Preview: Afton Eagles vs. Welch Wildcats

The Afton Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Welch Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Afton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Afton is headed into the matchup having just posted their biggest victory since January 9, 2024 on Saturday. They blew past Oklahoma Union 49-26.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Welch's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 31-30 to Bluejacket.

Afton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Welch, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Everything came up roses for Afton against Welch in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, as the squad secured a 78-25 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Afton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
