Basketball Recap: Pansophia Academy Takes a Loss

Pansophia Academy came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They took a blow against the Mendon Hornets, falling 73-25. The Pansophia Pumas lost against the Hornets in their previous head to head back in March of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 95-11 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Pansophia Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Greyson Tomlinson posted six points along with ten rebounds and five steals. Tomlinson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Reed, who scored six points.

Even though they lost, Pansophia Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Leading Mendon to victory were Owen Gorham and Ryder Gorham. Owen almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine steals, while Ryder made all 8 shots he took to post 22 points and six assists. The dominant performance gave Owen a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Mason Wilczynski, who on his way to 11 points.

Pansophia Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Mendon, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season.

As of now, neither Pansophia Academy nor Mendon have any future games scheduled.
