Softball Recap: Cumberland Comes Up Short

If Cumberland was riding high fresh off their 14-1 takedown of Prince Edward County on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Dukes fell 10-5 to the Randolph-Henry Statesmen on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Dukes in their meetings with the Statesmen: they've now lost nine in a row.

A. Mitchell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one stolen base. E. Karst also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Cumberland's record is now 2-8. As for Randolph-Henry, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-8.

Cumberland and Randolph-Henry could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Dukes (ranked 251st) will meet Nottoway (ranked 102nd) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Randolph-Henry will challenge Rustburg at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (201 vs. 73).
