Preview: Burnet Bulldogs vs. Jarrell Cougars
The Burnet Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jarrell Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Burnet will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
Last Tuesday, Burnet was able to grind out a solid win over Lampasas, taking the game 50-38. Given Burnet's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Lampasas is ranked 859th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Jarrell strolled past Lago Vista with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 51-35.
Jarrell found their leader in underclassman Aniya Taylor, who scored 22 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least a third of Jarrell's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Benavidez, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Burnet's victory bumped their record up to 21-7. As for Jarrell, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Burnet against Jarrell when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 57-28 victory. Does Burnet have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jarrell turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
