Softball Recap: Tartan Takes a Loss

Tartan extended their losing streak to 12 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They came up short against the South St. Paul Packers, falling 11-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Packers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 back in April.

Sydney Fearing made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Izzy Shodin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

As for South St. Paul, they now have a winning record of 7-6. Considering they have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On South St. Paul's side, Julia Bebeau made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off ten hits. The dominant performance also gave Bebeau a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emma Mauer was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Audrey Madson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Coming up, Tartan will welcome Simley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.07 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South St. Paul, they will head out on the road to challenge North at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
