The Venice Gondoliers will take on the San Fernando Tigers in a tournament on Wednesday. Venice is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 15 games.
On Monday, Venice got the win against Los Angeles CES by a conclusive 10-3. Considering the Gondoliers have won 15 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Nic Gholam looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Charlie Nisbet was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Quiroz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, San Fernando posted their closest win since February 22nd on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Verdugo Hills, sneaking past 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Ray Pelayo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Pelayo wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Torres, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Venice pushed their record up to 22-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for San Fernando, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
Venice beat San Fernando 7-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Do the Gondoliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
