Recap: Kennedy Commanders vs. Gateway Olympians
The Kennedy Commanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Gateway on the road and fell 86-53. Kennedy has not had much luck with Gateway recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Kennedy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marcus Montez. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Isaac Trujillo was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Gateway was led to victory by Hayden Von Boeckman and Oriel Bailey. Von Boeckman scored 20 points along with six steals, while Bailey dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. The contest was Bailey's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Knyle Serrell, who scored 11 points along with seven steals.
Kennedy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Kennedy will head out on the road to face off against Manual at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Manual presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kennedy in Colorado (Manual is ranked 70th, while Kennedy is ranked 262nd). As for Gateway, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against DSST: Green Valley Ranch at 5:30 p.m. DSST: Green Valley Ranch is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 68.8 points per game.
